Dictionnaire de l'Académie française Sample Database:
Technical note
The text, including orthography, is true to the original.
Physical representation of the text:
- The articles. The layout is that of the original, with the exception that the hanging indent of
some paragraphs in the first four editions is replaced by the paragraphus, "¶",
apart from the
initial paragraph, in which the text starts at the margin; within paragraphs, line breaks are not those of the original but are governed by the width of the browser screen.
- KWIC contexts. "\s" = hanging indent; "\r" = indent; "{...}"
= small capitals.
Virtual forms. The headword field often contains virtual forms in the original: e.g.
"DOUTEUX,
EUSE". The database reconstitutes the complete form, indicating the virtual part in brackets:
"DOUTEUX, [DOUT]EUSE".
KWIC contexts:
- References. The references given at the beginning of each line contain four pieces of
information: a) edition (e.g. "A1"), b) headword (e.g. "doux"), c) paragraph
number (e.g. "3"), d)
typeface ("R" = roman, "I" = italic, "B" = bold).
- Links. The complete context of the Technical usage label (Marques d'usage technique) tokens can be obtained by clicking on the keyword.
The KWIC displays were generated with the help of the program TACT

Comparative text-word lists. Column 1: global frequency in the 8 editions; cols. 2-9: frequency in each edition; col. 10: the word form. These lists were created with the help of the program WordCruncher (Johnston & Co.).
