There is good email and bad email. The latter is known in English as spam. Again, the French simply borrowed the English, whereas French-speaking Canadians showed themselves to be smarter and more expressive. Bad courriel was called pourriel, since it is rotten (pourri) and is thrown in the trashcan (la poubelle). The difference could be seen in April 2003, and has become much more pronounced today, as the figures for the end of January 2007 show. The chronological comparison also attests to the exponential growth of the World Wide Web.
